Surprise 40 th Birthday Party in
an upscale DC Neighborhood
Task: Our client wanted to surprise her husband with a lavish party on his 40 th birthday. The guest of honor was sent out to play golf all day with his friends who ensured that he would return to the house promptly at 7:30 p.m.
The challenge: Make sure that we create the perfect party but do it all the day of and be sure that there are no signs of a party as he drove up to the house.
Result: A very surprised, happily entertained Birthday Boy, and guests that stayed to celebrate until after 1 AM. Our client said "the night could not have been more perfect."
Backyard Logistics. First, we worked with a tent company to plan a custom tent for the back of the house to fit their long narrow patio area in such a way that the tent was not visible from the front of the house. We had to erect the tent on the afternoon of the party so all had to be planned and executed perfectly.
The Ghost Valet . The valets parked cars for guests from 6:45 until 7:20 and then hid out in an adjacent garage to avoid being spotted by the guest of honor. All cars were parked several streets away so the guest of honor would only think someone else in the neighborhood was having a party.
Surprises, and more Surprises. The client wanted the evening to be full of surprises for her husband, and wanted us to insure the guests would not be bored waiting for the guest of honor to arrive.
- We set up a sushi bar with a chef preparing delicacies to order in the gourmet open kitchen. The chef — in full Japanese attire — entertained and fed the guests prior to the arrival.
- We offered a specialty martini bar featuring Classic and Dirty Martinis, Apple Martinis, Cosmopolitans.
- About 30 minutes after the guest of honor arrived (fully surprised) a Marilyn Monroe impersonator entered the house and walked thru the house asking "Where's the birthday boy" until she found him. She then serenaded him with the classic Marilyn Happy Birthday, then mingled with the guests and "partied" for another hour, passing cigars on silver trays to all who wanted them.
- After dinner, the guests gathered to sing and cut cake in the dining room. When the guest of honor turned around , another surprise awaited...A belly dancer appeared to dance for the guests and actually danced with the guest of honor and his father.
